How I Became A Coder
I got into coding in school back in the early 80s, when most UK schools had BBC Micro Model B microcomputers. Hiding in the computer room during lunchtimes was a great way to avoid the school bullies and I became mesmerised with the myriad possibilities computers seemed to offer. After my dad died Mum bought us our own BBC Micro (with a 5.25" floppy drive, no less!) which sort of set me off on a career path, which I've enjoyed ever since - working in Local Government, Life & Pensions, Risk Management and, for the past dozen years, space planning and GiS - building complex data analysis and 3D visualisation tools for a wide range of clients across a broad selection of industries.
A career highlight has to be a pet project I created in 2004 which went viral (by 2004 standards at least) and grabbed the attention of the BBC, the King of Sweden, and most football fans in the UK!
